In 2007, we had the opportunity to take a transit of the Panama Canal cruise. Carnival was repositioning their Elation ship from Port Canaveral, Florida to San Diego, California. The repositioning cruise had stops in Aruba prior to the canal transit, and Puntarenas, Costa Rica, Acapulco, Mexico, Mazatlan, Mexico, and Cabo San Lucas after the transit.
Our son-in-law worked for Carnival. He let us know about the cruise as soon as it was released and we booked immediately. Because he was a Carnival employee, he was able to get employee price for his cabin and family prices for our adjoining cabin.
We had balcony suite cabins on deck U. These cabins were right at the level of the locks in the Panama Canal. The departure port was Port Canaveral, Florida.
The first port call was the island of Aruba.
The next event was the reason we booked the cruise - a complete transit of the Panama Canal from Atlantic to Pacific. There were no port calls in Panama, just a transit of the canal.
Our first port on the Pacific was Puntarenas, Costa Rica.
Our next port was Acapulco, Mexico, where we saw the famous cliff divers.
The next port was Mazatlan, Mecico.
The next port of call was Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
The cruise terminated in San Diego, California, the new home port for the Elation.
The total length of the cruise was 15 nights.
